Wish is the story of a troubled young man, a rootless city-dweller with no knowledge of nature or the countryside, who finds himself locked away in the fastness of a remote valley among the mountains and hills of central Wales. Here, working alongside a stranger from a very different background, Alver becomes absorbed in the world of a pair, and eventually a family, of falcons. As the seasons roll one into the next, absorption spirals into obsession and his inner life slowly merges with the daily pattern of hunting, killing, vigilance and loyalty he witnesses from the hillside. Alver becomes aware of something approaching, an unsettling presence he encountered once before and has never been able to comprehend. An identity is taking shape, an impossible hybrid.
