Faced with moral conflicts that beset him throughout his journey, Paul questions whether omniscient God or unfathomable Fate is the force behind these unwanted and challenging circumstances. Paul responds to them with his own instincts, as well as his inner sense of right and wrong, rather than in strict conformance to his ingrained principles, even when a situation leaves him with no other choice but to commit the cardinal sin of murder. This is a saga of one man's struggle to find a balance between Faith and Reason when faced with problems of the heart that seem insoluble.
